Ethernet First Mile (EFM)

Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) is the perfect fit for businesses who are outgrowing their broadband connections.

Ethernet First Mile (EFM) offers the high-level bandwidth, speed and reliability of a Leased Line, but at a fraction of the cost, making it an affordable way to improve your businesses connectivity.

EFM uses existing copper lines, instead of fibre, to connect your business to the local exchange. This means it can be more cost-effective, simpler and quicker to install than a standard Leased Line, but your business will still benefit from a dedicated and highly-resilient connection.

Unlike Broadband, speeds are symmetrical so you get the same speeds uploading data as you do downloading.

Prices for EFM are subject to survey and available on application.

Features and benefits:

  • A private connection with no contention ratios.
  • A fully managed service with guaranteed fix times.
  • EFM offers a massive step up in speed and service at an affordable price.
  • Delivers bandwidth reliant applications such as cloud services and video conferencing that require superior network performance.
  • Supports VoIP and hosted solutions to cut your business phone bills and reduce or eliminate ISDN circuit rental costs.

Generic Ethernet Access (GEA)

GEA offers businesses all the benefits of dedicated fibre connectivity like resiliency, high speeds and business-class SLAs, but with considerably lower setup costs compared to EFM and Leased Lines.

GEA is the perfect solution for businesses that want a strong, fast data connection, and want it installed quickly and cost effectively.

GEA uses a clever combination of new and old technology; between your premises and the cabinet, GEA uses the existing copper infrastructure and then fibre from the cabinet to the exchange. The traffic then passes onto an Ethernet network rather than the standard, more contended, broadband network delivering a faster internet connection.

Prices for GEA are subject to survey and available on application.

Features and benefits:

  • Lower setup costs compared to EFM and Leased Lines.
  • Uncontended bandwidth.
  • Half the installation lead time of a Leased Line.
  • Symmetrical speeds of up to 20Mbps.
  • Guaranteed service levels.
  • Delivers bandwidth reliant applications such as cloud services and video conferencing that require superior network performance.
  • Supports VoIP and hosted solutions to cut your business phone bills and reduce or eliminate ISDN circuit rental costs.

Leased Lines

If your business depends on being connected to the internet, then a Leased Line is the number one choice for reliability and speed.

A Leased Line is a dedicated, symmetric connection going directly from the local exchange to your premises providing robust, reliable and fast data connectivity. Making it the best option for businesses that regard reliable, high-speed internet access as mission critical.

Central London Leased Line prices start at £450 for 100Mb. Prices for Leased Lines outside of Central London are subject to survey and available on application.

Although prices for Leased Lines seem considerably more than other Business Connectivity options, businesses pay a premium monthly rate for a constantly active connection backed-up by Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Features and benefits:

  • Typically, 60-90 day lead times.
  • Uncontended bandwidth for better reliability.
  • Symmetric upload and download speeds.
  • Leased Lines are actively monitored 24/7, 365 days to avoid network failures and other faults.
  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are standard and guarantee performance, availability and fault fix times.
  • Delivers bandwidth reliant applications such as cloud services and video conferencing that require superior network performance.
  • Supports VoIP and hosted solutions to cut your business phone bills and reduce or eliminate ISDN circuit rental costs.
